Being a mission driven organisation focused on financial inclusion, we tend to attract employees who want to put their scarce skills to use for the greater good. We place great importance on our JUMO shared behaviours – common principles that we hold ourselves and each other accountable to and how we work together to achieve our mission. All employees were included in this collaborative process of refreshing our shared behaviours in 2021 and were given the opportunities to share their views, feedback and ideas.

JUMO was founded in London by Andrew Watkins-Ball, our CEO, with a vision of reimagining finance in emerging markets. Andrew’s passion, which ultimately led to him founding JUMO, is to find capital and put it to work to create products, jobs, opportunities and growth. Since 2015, Andrew has been leading JUMO’s mission to enable the world’s unbanked entrepreneurs access to the financial services they need to grow and prosper. He believes that everyone should have access to the best financial choices. He participates actively in all company-wide forums and is famously only a slack or email away for any JUMOnaut to access.

Anyone who works at JUMO, or who has been part of the JUMO journey, will tell you it’s autonomy that ignites our best work and the people that inspire us each day. Due to the nature of our work, understanding how we contribute and impact one another and taking collective ownership of our mission is essential. We run targeted workshops with external facilitators to enhance cross-functional collaboration, and demonstrating our shared behaviours is included in our performance review ratings.

JUMO’s remuneration philosophy plays a critical role in our employee valuation proposition. We take care to benchmark our remuneration using reliable data and independent consultants to ensure we are paying competitively in all of our international locations (currently 15 and counting!). Our long term incentive programme is a broad based, true equity scheme, which gives employees the opportunity to participate in the growth of the business.
