Creating Challenging, Attainable, Desirable Goals: He holds his team to high standards, but those standards are built collaboratively, aligned with organization values, and designed to push the organization to go out of its comfort zone in support of the values.
Empowerment and Accountability: Dr. Vanscoy is open-minded, collaborative, and supportive of his team. He empowers them to take responsibility, make decisions, provide suggestions, and collaboratively discuss the future of the organization. But he also holds his team accountable. Though he is supportive to the end, he tacitly expects that team members rise to the same level of drive and fortitude that has generated historical corporate, team, and patient success.

Collaboration is fundamental to RareMed’s culture—half of our values engender collaborative interactions. Digital platforms, cross-functional teams, regular check-ins, knowledge sharing programs, celebration of individual and group successes, and a culture that catalyzes discourse and idea-sharing foster unity, innovation, efficiency, and an environment of mutual support and growth. Employees are encouraged to continuously provide and solicit feedback and ideas. Our facility, comprised largely of collaborative spaces, serves as a “city center” of our geographically-diverse team, where employees are encouraged to travel to the site for opportunities to collaborate in-person and share ideas. Focusing on the “team” over the individual drives our continued success.

Aside from our culture, competitive benefits packages, and strong compensation, RareMed provides unique ways for employees to prosper. RareMed’s internal social media platform allows team members to share thank you’s to each other, assigning monetary value to acknowledgements using our internal currency, “RareCoin”. Thousands of RareCoin shared and distributed between employees per month on this platform. RareCoin creates a way for every employee and manager to help make a financial impact in the lives of team members for going above and beyond in small ways. Though a few RareCoin here and there may seem small, they add up over the course of a year and can be exchanged for gift cards, RareMed gear, or just added to a reloadable debit card! We also recently introduced a Paid Volunteer Time Off program, where we provide paid time for employees to volunteer at causes of their choosing.
